The capital of the Caprivi Region is a lively urban centre with a mix of seven languages and many wooden and woven crafts for sale. Situated in the heart of Southern Africa between Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana Katima Mulilo is a convenient stop en route to many safari destinations. The town has a mix of old and new shops with vegetable sellers and tailors with antiquated machines under shady trees. The town is surrounded my traditional villages where people live on farming and fishing. The Living Museum of the Mafwe 20 km outside of Katima Mulilo gives visitors an interactive cultural experience. Try to weave a traditional basket or taste a homemade meal and sleep in the bush camp. The Caprivi Art Centre in Katima Mulilo is a community-based outlet for artists and craftspeople from the Caprivi Strip. A rather unique attraction is the flush toilet carved into a baobab tree. The Katima Mulilo Airport 20 km outside of town is a gateway to the surrounding national parks such as Mamili and  Mudumu National Park and is only a tow hours drive from the Victoria Falls.
